Funadhoo is the capital of Shaviyani Atoll (North Miladhunmadulu Atoll) and has served as the administrative center since January 1, 1968, when the atoll office was transferred from Lhaimagu. Located approximately 220 km north of Malé, Funadhoo is one of the larger inhabited islands in the atoll at 88.9 hectares. The island is renowned for its traditional dhoni boat construction, with skilled craftsmen building the elegant wooden vessels essential for inter-island transport and fishing. Funadhoo features government offices, schools, a health center, and bustling local markets where fresh fish, tropical fruits, and handicrafts are traded. The island serves as the economic and administrative hub for the atoll's inhabited islands, hosting the atoll council and regional services.
