Kinbidhoo

2.267°N, 73.150°E

Kinbidhoo is a northern island in Thaa Atoll with significant Buddhist archaeological remains including a large ruined stupa.

Kinbidhoo is one of the most historically significant islands in Thaa Atoll, renowned for its important Buddhist archaeological remains including a large ruined stupa. These ancient remains were explored by the late Muhammad Ismail Didi, and a report on the survey was published in the book 'Divehi Tārīkhah Au Alikameh.' Kinbidhoo was also severely affected by the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. The island features a school and basic health services for its community. Visitors can explore the archaeological site, learn about the Maldives' pre-Islamic Buddhist past, and experience authentic southern Maldivian island life. Kinbidhoo's combination of profound historical significance and traditional culture makes it a unique cultural destination within the atoll.
