Located approximately 277 km north of Malé, it serves as the economic and administrative hub of the northern Maldives. The island covers 247 hectares and is home to a thriving retail and wholesale sector, construction industry, and traditional crafts including boat building, rope making, and blacksmithing. Kulhudhuffushi boasts key infrastructure including a regional hospital serving three atolls, three government schools, three higher education institutions, a domestic airport opened in 2019, two local harbors, and an international seaport. The island is famous for local products like 'Kulhudhuffushi Haalu' (a traditional sweet) and 'Masbondi' (fish product). Its unique natural attraction is 'Mashikulhi,' the only clay mangrove in the Maldives, surrounded by Brevi trees. The Saturday Market at Bandaara Road draws hundreds of islanders from across Thiladhunmathi for shopping and business.
