The city was traditionally the King's Island, from where ancient royal dynasties ruled. Malé features narrow bustling streets, colorful houses, the iconic Grand Friday Mosque, vibrant fish markets, and a strong communal atmosphere. It serves as the primary gateway to the rest of the Maldives, with Velana International Airport on nearby Hulhulé Island.
