Feydhoo is the southernmost inhabited island of the Maldives, located in Addu Atoll (Seenu Atoll) approximately 539 km south of Malé. The people of Feydhoo are former residents of Gan who were relocated when the British Royal Air Force leased Gan island in 1956/1957 to build RAF Gan military base. The island's residents maintain a strong English-speaking heritage from their employment with the British military, with many transitioning to the tourism industry after the base closed in 1976. Feydhoo has a population of approximately 5,810 as of 2024, making it one of the more populous islands in Addu. The island is connected by causeway to Maradhoo and the rest of the western Addu island chain. Feydhoo features traditional Maldivian landscape with palm trees, tropical vegetation, small roads, and closely built houses. Visitors can experience authentic southern Maldivian culture, explore the island's British colonial history, and enjoy the tranquil beaches and lagoon.
