Maradhoo is the main fishing village of Addu Atoll, strategically located as the bridging point between Gan and Hithadhoo, with rich marine environments and historical British-era infrastructure.
Maradhoo is one of the inhabited islands of Addu Atoll (Seenu Atoll), located in the middle of the western island chain. The island is approximately 537 km south of Malé and serves as the main bridging point between the industrial island of Gan and the administrative capital Hithadhoo. Maradhoo is the main fishing village in the atoll, supplying fish to nearby Maradhoo-Feydhoo and Feydhoo. The island features a good house reef with abundant fish varieties and multi-colored corals, making it a famous diving point. The island has four wards: Venbolhofushi (north), Egganburi (central), Valiburi (south), and Maradhoo-Feydhoo (southeast). The northeast end features a historic British navy slipway and marine maintenance base, now used as a private docking center for dhonis and vessels throughout the atoll. The Bondoge building, formerly a British RAF criminal detention center, now serves as an administrative building with Club Goadhiyya. Maradhoo's landscape features palm trees, tropical shrubs, small roads, and closely built houses with lush green vegetation including coconut palms and banana trees.
