Madaveli is one of the inhabited islands of Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll and is the third largest populated island in the atoll. Located approximately 415 km south of Malé, the island sits on the front of a long reef stretching from Madaveli to Faresmaathodaa, which can be tracked on foot at low tide. The island has notable royal ancestries, including descendants of the Royal Household of Karayya Ganduvaru of Fuvahmulah. Many generations claim inheritance from various islands including Fuvahmulah. Madaveli features a school teaching from LKG to Grade 10, a health center, and local shops. The island has regular ferry service to Thinadhoo. Fishing is the main source of income while nearby resorts and the domestic airport provide alternative sources. Visitors can experience authentic southern Maldivian culture, enjoy fresh seafood, and explore the island's beaches and lagoon.
